We welcome new members!

We welcome singers who have the desire and commitment to learn and perform great choral music.  Auditions are typically held in early September for the upcoming season, by appointment, at Trinity Lutheran Church ( 3637 Golf Road, Evanston ). There are no special preparation requirements for this audition, but you must exhibit basic music literacy, including secure intonation, and a good quality tone.

To schedule an audition appointment, contact the NSCS Auditions Coordinator in early August. Be sure to specify what voice part you sing and describe your previous singing experience. Our Music Director, Dr. Julia Davids, will accept new members that complement our current section balance.

If you are currently a full-time student, our Choral Scholars Program may be of interest to you.

Expectations of Members

The North Shore Choral Society strives to provide our audiences and members with outstanding musical experiences. Attendance at rehearsals and participation in all concerts is an expectation of membership.  We perform at least three concerts per season as well as a Christmas Concert with the Evanston Symphony Orchestra.

NSCS rehearses every Tuesday evening from 7:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Special rehearsals, including an external, member-led sectional rehearsal for each concert, may be called as required.

Dues are $100 per year ($30 for full-time students) and each member must purchase music and reasonably priced uniform concert attire.

While members are held to high expectations, NSCS provides many resources to enhance our performance.  Music Director Dr. Julia Davids, co-author of Vocal Technique – A Guide for Conductors, Teachers, and Singers, gives us clear strategies for mastering the music.

Rehearsal recordings and other resources are made available to support the at-home practice which is expected between rehearsals.
